The Institute of Health Sciences and Wellbeing at the University of Sunderland will enhance our collaborative, multi and inter-disciplinary research profile.

Environment, health and safety roles have become integral to the sustainability of organisations around the world. Increasingly employers require proven expertise in health, safety and environmental systems, an in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, and the ability to work effectively with others in order to take proactive measures and to communicate with stakeholders. Employees are also expected to be members of professional bodies such as IOSH and IEMA.

Our postgraduate programmes in "Environment, Health and Safety" and "Health, Safety and Wellbeing" is accredited by IOSH and aims to provide you with all the skills and knowledge required for a variety of related managerial roles.  We run these programmes for more than 20 years and in two modes of delivery. Traditional on campus delivery and distance learning/fully- on line modes.  The latter suits employed learners who can study anywhere in the world and flexibly.

A Postgraduate Diploma will enhance your chances for employment in a variety of roles such as:

  • Health and Safety manager or consultant
  • Environmental manager, project leader, consultant or auditor
  • Health, Safety and Environmental manager
  • Environmental and Sustainability manager
