Cashing in on the green way to light up homes

Environment UK whg electricians Chris Hickey and Liam JohnsonEco-friendly Midlands landlord whg will be in the pink after investing in the green credentials of homes.

The savvy provider has fitted photovoltaic panels to 12 low-rise blocks of flats in Streetly and Pheasey. The panels will generate electricity to power lighting in the communal areas of the blocks and additional energy will be sold to National Grid.

The sale will generate an estimated income for whg of around £450,000 over 25 years, demonstrating a four-fold return on investment.

Yuill Homes goes green on eco-friendly scheme

Swanland work_startsYuill Homes has started work on an eco-friendly, affordable housing scheme at Swanland Village, near Hull.

The development will see Yuill Homes deliver 26 new sustainable homes in partnership with Railway Housing Association for local residents to rent - including 16 new two bed apartments, as well as ten two bedroom bungalows.

Part-funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the scheme will include an innovative sedum roof which will be planted on top of the new apartment complex - transforming a typically unused space into a microclimate for birds and insects.
