RWM 2012, Europe’s most comprehensive range of resource and waste management products and solutions will be taking place at Birmingham’s NEC from 11th to the 13th September.

Sand bags transform urban park for festival
Paul Mitchell Sacks, a Truro based family business established in 1945, were very pleased to supply the Oculus Team in the creation of a temporary urban park for the London Festival of Architecture from 23rd June to 8th July 2012. Oculus is a temporary urban park, created in the style of an amphitheatre, where everybody can rest, recharge and play.
This involved some 7,150 military-grade sand bags, filled with screened recycled sand and reused afterwards by Camden Council.
Roz Barr, Director of Roz Bar Architects, who designed the project, said: “The idea of a paving of sand bags was a response to the brief of building a temporary space in the city.

The American Hardwood Export Council teams up with the Royal College of Art to merge design with sustainability
The American Hardwood Export Council will collaborate with product design students at the Royal College of Art in London to produce and exhibit chairs during the London Design Festival.
Under the leadership of tutors Sebastian Wrong and Harry Richardson, the use of wood as a material and its Life Cycle impacts have been added to the Design Products curriculum and the students have been set the challenge of designing a functional chair or seat in an American hardwood of their choice. The designs will be developed in to working prototypes with the help of Benchmark, internationally renowned for its craftsmanship in wood and long-standing relationship with designer Terence Conran.
WWEM 2012 registration now open!
Visitors to WWEM 2012 (Telford, UK, 7th/8th Nov) the Water Wastewater & Environmental Monitoring event, can now register for free at www.wwem.uk.com.
Pre-registered visitors will receive free parking, refreshments and lunch, in addition to complimentary access to all Workshops and the International Exhibition. Non-registered visitors will be charged £20/day.
Two conferences (Laboratory and Process Monitoring) will take place during the event and will be repeated on both days – the cost for these will be £55 per day or £100 for both days.
